Smoothing also uses Thioglycolate derivatives, but with lower concentrations and often enriched with conditioning agents such as silk proteins or silicones. The process does not aim to break all protein bonds, but rather just to relax them. The straightening iron temperature used is also generally lower than rebonding. The goal is to reduce frizz and waves, not to create absolute straightness.
Ideal Candidate
